IPL Fantasy Cricket Tip #13: KXIP v KKR

The teams: Kings XI Punjab v Kolkata Knight Riders. Both sides secured wins over the weekend thanks to dominant chasing performances – KXIP’s win was a combined effort by Vijay, Vohra and Maxwell and KKR’s win was set up by Gautam Gambhir’s sublime 90* off 60 balls. Both sides have been tidy in the field so far. KKR has a formidable bowling lineup with Morkel, Shakib, Narine, Russell and Yadav while KXIP seem to depend largely on uncapped bowlers.

The Venue: IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Traditionally known to be a good seamer’s wicket, M Ashwin took three wickets in the last game showing that heavy use in the IPL is starting to make this pitch spinner-friendly. Despite this, expect both captains to prefer batting second, as has been the theme in this year’s IPL.

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Andre RussellRussell raced to 3 wickets in KKR’s opening game, and then smashed a blistering 36 off 17 balls in the second match. His ability to hit the big sixes and pick up crucial wickets make him a useful fantasy league pick. The only issue is that if Uthappa and Gambhir continue their fine form, he doesn’t get much time to bat!

Glenn Maxwell The Big Show finally showed up to 2016’s IPL with a fine knock to hand KXIP their first win of the year. He walked in with 41 needed from 30 balls straight after a double-wicket over and proceeded to casually smash 32* off 14 balls (including 3 fours and 2 sixes) to finish the match with 8 deliveries to spare. He will look to use his non-traditional strokeplay to upset KKR’s strong spin lineup.

Manan Vohra – Our *wildcard* pick for this game is Manan Vohra. After he started his IPL Career strongly in 2013 and 2014, he had a quiet 2015, but has returned with a vengeance this year. Though KXIP lost their first 2 matches, Vohra got off to good starts, scoring 38 and 32. He finally converted his form to a half century against RPS, winning himself the Man of the Match award in the process. The fact that he bats in the top order maximises his potential.
