The teams: Delhi Daredevils v Rising Pune Supergiants. Making a mockery of pre-tournament odds, DD sit in 2nd place with 5 wins from 7 games including back-to-back wins in their last two games. RPS, on the other hand, are under some serious pressure and Captain Cool MSD will be facing the heat. Being close to the bottom of the table is unfamiliar territory for MSD. To add to RPS’s woes, their top 4 overseas players are all injured and have been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. Faf, KP, Mitch Marsh and Steve Smith made up the core of the RPS team and with all of them back home, RPS face an uphill task. Expect to see some new overseas players with the likes of George Bailey and Usman Khwaja being flown in as replacements.
The Venue: Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. This ground historically favours the chasing team but DD changed that in the last game. Both Sam Billings and Karun Nair played magnificent knocks to ensure DD set a total in excess of 180. While this is typically a spinner’s wicket, the DD quicks Braithwaite and Zaheer Khan picked up 3 wickets each in the last game.
Our picks for your fantasy cricket team
Ajinkya Rahane – With the exit of Faf, KP and Smith, suddenly Ajinkya Rahane has become the main stay of the RPS batting order. We expect him to open with Khwaja, which should allow Rahane to bat responsibly. It is very important for RPS that Rahane bats as many overs as possible to provide stability to a shaky batting line-up.
R Ashwin – Ever since the last game of the group stage at the World T20, R Ashwin seems to have gone very quiet. He is a quality player and we expect him to bounce back when RPS need him the most. MSD will be looking to his main bowler to provide the crucial breakthroughs and Kotla has been a happy hunting ground for Ashwin in the past.
Rishabh Pant – Our *wildcard* pick for this game is Rishabh Pant. This 18-year old burst onto the scene with a stunning 69 from just 40 balls against the Gujarat Lions. He showcased a variety of shots and batted like an experienced campaigner, despite his young age. He gives Zaheer another great option at the top of the order and combines well with de Kock.
