IPL Fantasy Cricket Tips #34: SRH v GL

The teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) v Gujarat Lions (GL). This will be GL’s fourth match in 7 days, and yet KKR have just stolen the top spot on the table from them. In 2nd place they are still ahead of SRH (who sit in fifth), however, Raina will want this win after suffering back to back losses. Despite having a tremendous top order on paper – with Finch, McCullum and Smith, their most consistent batsman has been Dinesh Karthik, so GL will be hoping the top 3 can fire. SRH meanwhile continue to rely on Warner’s superb form, which has led them to 4 wins in 7 games.

The Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. SRH were ousted 2 games ago here thanks to a Warner failure, but won their last game when Warner made 92. Expect a batsman friendly wicket that may have something in it for the seamers. The trend of chasing is starting to change and so it will be interesting to see what decision the captain that wins the toss will make.

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

David Warner – Just like Virat Kohli, it is becoming almost too risky to not pick Warner this year. 386 runs (3rd most in 2016) from 7 innings, with an average of 77.20 (3rd most in 2016) at a strike rate of 168.55. Need we say more?

Dinesh Karthik – As we said above, surprisingly – given the formidable top 3 – Dinesh Karthik’s batting has been excellent for GL this year. With 2 half-centuries and 200+ runs so far, he has twice helped rebuild the innings when the top order failed. Raina may choose to drop an overseas batsman and strengthen his bowling with Bravo or Steyn, which means Karthik may get promoted up the order.

Shivil Kaushik  – Our *wildcard* pick for today, Shivil Kaushik showed he has potential and more than just an awkward action. Even though his Paul Adamesque bowling action is doing the rounds on social media, he picked up 3 crucial wickets and bowled within the first 10 overs of the game. He even picked up 1 wicket in the huge defeat to Delhi. Raina seems to have a lot of faith in this youngster and lets face it, its always fun to watch someone who is a chinaman bowler. Read how the term “Chinaman” originated in our previous post.
