The teams: Gujarat Lions v Pune Supergiants. Raina v Dhoni. GL and RPS are the two new kids on the block, both were expected to need time to find their footing and yet both began their IPL careers with victories. Based on their strong starts this is a tough one to predict. Dhoni is the more experienced skipper, though it is often overlooked that Raina has captained Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji trophy, so he isn’t new to leadership.
The Venue: Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. GL’s home stadium, but hard to read given they’ve only ever hosted one T20I – in 2013, which is also when this ground made its ODI debut. It does, however, have a large media capsule just like the one at Lords.
Our picks for your fantasy cricket team
Mitchell Marsh – Though he didn’t bat in RPS’s opening game, he showed his prowess with the ball by picking up two key wickets in the same over, including one off his first ball. Pick him as he will play an important role with the ball again, as can deliver some big hits in the death overs.
Suresh Raina – Though he had a forgettable WT20, Raina thrives in the IPL. Most games played, most runs scored, most catches taken – all records that belong to Raina. He showed flashes of his brilliance in the opening game before perishing to a slower ball, and will be looking to perform against his old CSK skipper’s new side.
Sarabjit Ladda – Our wildcard pick for today, this GL legspinner may prove to be a key weapon against the star-studded RPS batting lineup. If he can deliver with the perfect amount of flight early, his wily leg spin may be difficult to pick.
