IPL Fantasy Cricket Tips #28 and #29: GL v KXIP and RPS v MI

Super Sunday at the IPL! All 8 teams in action this weekend, with Gujarat, Punjab, Pune and Mumbai playing on Sunday after an equally action-packed Saturday lineup. Check out our Fantasy League tips for you below.

Match tip #28: GL v KXIP

The teams: Super Sunday kicks off with the Gujarat Lions v Kings XI Punjab – a tale of two extremes. GL sit perched at the top of the table with only 1 loss so far this year, while KXIP languish at the bottom with only 1 win. KXIP have just missed that ‘x-factor’ which both Maxwell and Miller brought in previous seasons. GL on the other hand, have been stellar. Fun fact: 2 of the 3 centuries so far this IPL have come against the GL, yet they were both in losing causes.

The Venue: SCA Stadium, Rajkot. The last game here saw Virat Kohli’s first T20 century and a Smith-McCullum-Karthik special to chase it down. Expect another batting friendly wicket and a tough time for bowlers.

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Dwayne Smith – Raina will be thanking his stars and squad depth; after Finch started the season strong, his injury opened up a slot for Dwayne Smith. Smith has raced away to 148 runs, including 2 half centuries in just 3 innings. He seems to relish batting with his opening partner from CSK days, McCullum.

Shaun Marsh – Punjab’s only consistent player, Marsh still averages nearly 40 this IPL, and has racked up one half century. He just hasn’t done enough to convert it into victories for KXIP, so he will look to up his game this Sunday.

Shivil Kaushik – Our wildcard pick for today, 20-year old Kaushik made his IPL debut for Gujarat on Friday. Picked due to an injury to Tambe, he had a mediocre first outing, but his mystery “Paul Adams” esque action might be enough for GL to give him another go. The KXIP will be wary of him – he is said to have once confessed that he sometimes doesn’t know which ball will turn which way!

Match Tip #29: RPS v MI

The teams: Rising Pune Supergiants v Mumbai Indians. The Maharashtra Derby. Mumbai sit 3rd in the table, coming off 2 back to back wins, while Pune have had 5 losses in their last 6 games, including a demoralizing loss to the Gujarat Lions. These 2 teams met in the IPL’s first game 3 weeks ago, when Pune decimated Mumbai after dismissing them for only 121 runs. Based on recent form, though, Rohit will back his boys to take it all the way versus Dhoni’s struggling side.

The Venue: MCA Stadium, Pune. Dhoni successfully made the MA Chidambaram stadium a fortress for CSK, but his new Pune team have struggled at home. Despite a Steve Smith century, Pune couldn’t defend 195 in the last game, so expect another high scoring game and the pitch to stay consistent all through.

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Thisara Perera – He missed out on Pune’s first 2 games, but has since raced to 8 wickets, the most of any Pune bowler, and 3rd in line for the Purple Cap. MSD needs to figure out how to better utilize him with the bat, and he will be an asset to any Fantasy Cricket team.

Rohit Sharma – Rohit is quickly becoming too risky to leave out of any Fantasy Cricket lineup. His uncanny ability to convert starts into match-winning innings has helped him deliver 4 half-centuries this year. He sits at 298 runs so far, 2nd in line for the Orange Cap, and will look to lead from the front against Pune.

Krunal Pandya – Our wildcard pick for today, Pandya Senior showcased his worth in his first 2 outings, totaling 3 wickets and over 100 runs. He has since had 2 weak performances and will be looking to join his brother in the Indian team by impressing the opposition captain MSD with a matchwinning effort.
