IPL Fantasy Cricket Tips #42: SRH v DD

Original artwork © Ishita Mohanty

The Teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Daredevils (SRH v DD). Zak’s Daredevils were doing well in IPL 2016 but have stumbled of late. In their last game, some quality death bowling by KXIP denied DD after they were well on track for the win. DD’s constant chopping and changing of teams is not helping their cause either – it’s tough to understand the decision to keep dropping Duminy despite his consistent performances. With MI and RCB close on their heels, DD will need to pull out a convincing win against SRH to finish in the top 4. SRH are sitting pretty at the top of the table and will be looking to maintain their momentum. The bowling in particular has been excellent – SRH managed to defend 138 in a low-scoring encounter against RPS on Tuesday.

The Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Although the wicket here is considered a flat track, previous matches played here have not been high scoring. The last game between SRH and GL saw scores of under 130 each – we expect some big hitting as the fight for the top 4 heats up!

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

David Warner – Our pick once again. With the sublime form Warner is in, he is single handedly taking his team to convincing victories. Although he hasn’t really fired in the last two games, he is still a sure shot fantasy pick and one of the players still in the running for the Orange Cap

Amit Mishra – Mishra has been the pick of DD’s bowlers this IPL. With his classic leg spinners, googlies and ability to flight the ball, we think it will be hard for the SRH batsmen to go after him. His eyes would have lit up after the RPS leg spinner Adam Zampa ran through the SRH batting line up in their last game.

Karun Nair  – Our *wildcard* pick for this game is Karun Nair. With the failure of Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson in the tournament so far, Karun Nair has made the most of the opportunities presented to him. HIs calm and composed innings combined with some solid technique showed that he is a strong middle order batsman and is definitely one of the rising young stars this IPL.

Probably the most important match for us (Daredevils). Lose this and we will have almost no breathing space left. Win this and we will have a huge chance to make it to the Semis given RCB’s loss yesterday. SRH is probably the best team in the tournament right now but they have a weak or let’s say a fragile middle order. We have to dismiss Warner / Dhawan early to have a chance in this game else this game will be over before it started. They have a very very strong bowling line up. Probably the best in IPL. If somehow we can put them on their back for not having a spinner we can make a game out of it because Hyd will have a very slow pitch but unfortunately for us SRH bowlers are using that to their advantage. Winning this match will do a world of good to DD’s confidence but I don’t see that happening. My DD XI : Decock / Iyer (One more Chance) / Samson / Nair / Duminy / Pant / Morris / Mishra / Zak / Tahir / Shami. I know our batting looks weak but we need to trust it. Iyer, Negi and Shami’s failure has hurt us badly. That Pune Match reminded me of playing Sunny Singh in the Semi Final i 2010. It was so dumb I cant believe it. Rahul Dravid – Really ?. Dropping your 3 best players ?. This will come and haunt us.

Sarthak – thanks a lot for your comment. This is a crucial game for DD but we wouldn’t put it beyond them just yet! SRH are strong contenders now for this year’s title and a win today against SRH might revive DD’s campaign – let’s hope skipper Zak and coach Dravid can come up with a winning combination!
