IPL Fantasy Tips 19 and 20: GL v RCB and RPS v KKR

The IPL show carries on Sunday Fun-day! The next double-header sees four great teams in action -Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rising Pune Supergiants and Kolkata Knightriders. This post will cover both GL v RCB and RPS v KKR.

Match tip #17: GL v RCB

The teams: Gujarat Lions v Royal Challengers Bangalore. Raina against Kohli. After three consecutive wins at the start, GL were brought crashing down to earth by SRH, losing by 10 wickets. RCB defied the trend (and a rollicking partnership between Thisara Perera and Rajat Bhatia) to win their last game against RPS after batting first. Both teams are near the top of the table but neither will want to slip-up at this stage of their campaigns. Expect a hard fought, competitive game.

The Venue: Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot. GL have won one game and lost one game at their home venue. With another decent batting wicket expected, the captain winning the toss will be looking to chase. The master of the chase, Virat Kohli, will really be hoping he wins his first toss this IPL – he has lost four in a row!

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Virat Kohli –  King Kohli. Pick him. Sit back. Watch your team rack up the fantasy points. Pure class.

Suresh Raina – The IPL’s most successful batsman struck form with a solid 75 against SRH. Raina will enjoy batting against a relatively week RCB bowling attack along with Finch and McCullum.

Tabraiz Shamsi – This South African chinaman bowler looked like a superb prospect against RPS. His first IPL wicket was Ajinkya Rahane and he should have had Perera lbw next ball. If Brad Hogg’s success in this format is anything to go by, this 26 year old young chinaman bowler is a prize pick for RCB.

Match Tip #18: RPS v KKR

The teams: Rising Pune Supergiants v Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR are at the top of the table and RPS one spot from the bottom. While KKR continue to deliver early wins under Gautam Gambhir, the RPS have not been doing as well as this year’s other new franchise, the Gujarat Lions. Their formidable top 4 on paper, including Smith, Pietersen and du Plessis, have failed to live up to their reputation. Though Captain Dhoni doesn’t usually like to tinker too much with his playing XI, he may be forced to do so on Sunday because of a calf injury to Pietersen. It will be interesting to see which direction he goes.

The Venue: The MCA International Stadium in Pune. Pune will host its second game of the IPL 2016 on Sunday. In RPS’s loss to RCB on Friday, both teams put 160+ totals on the board, so we should expect another batting friendly track. RPS will want to give the home fans something to cheer about.

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Gautam Gambhir – Leading from the front (at the top of the order), Gambhir has led KKR to 3 victories in their first 4 games, including 2 half-centuries and a man of the match award. A little known fact is that Gambhir has 28 fifties in IPL history, more than any other player. He will relish the opportunity to post a big individual score on the Pune track.

Thisara Perera – Though it wasn’t enough to take his team all the way, Perera had a strong game against RCB, picking up 3 wickets and chipping in with 34 off 13 balls – including 25 off a single over! His all-round abilities make him an asset to any fantasy team.

Rajat Bhatia – Our wildcard pick for today, Rajat Bhatia would usually only be picked his bowling. However, she showed he can bat when he hit 21 off 11 balls against RCB. He may be given more responsibility up the order with Pietersen injured.
