Can you believe it’s already the second weekend of the IPL? You know what weekend means – double trouble! This post will have fantasy cricket tips for both the games on Saturday.
Match tip #17: DD v MI
The teams: Delhi Daredevils v Mumbai Indians. India’s 2 biggest cities, yet their IPL franchises have taken noticeably different paths over the last 8 years. Coming into 2016, DD invested in youth, and MI, the reigning champions, continued to rely on marquee players. At this stage, DD and MI have the same number of points despite MI having played 2 games more. MI, however, are coming off a big win against RCB and are a dangerous side once they get on a roll.
The Venue: Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Amit Mishra spun his way to a match-winning 4 wickets against KXIP in the previous game here. Expect both teams to rely on their spinners, and want to bat second as has been the case in most games so far this year.
Our picks for your fantasy cricket team
Quinton de Kock – This IPL’s only centurion so far, it’s easy to forget he’s only 23 years old. Before the start of the IPL, he wasn’t even certain to make the playing XI, but averaging 92 after 3 games at a strike rate of nearly 180, de Kock is now DD’s mainstay. And he gets you extra fantasy points for catches / stumpings behind the wicket!
Jasprit Bumrah – Bumrah’s knack of picking up key wickets under pressure has made him Rohit’s go-to death bowler. His 3 wickets against RCB will give him loads of confidence.
Krunal Pandya – Our wildcard pick for this game, Hardik’s lesser known brother Krunal Pandya has been one of MI’s brighter spots. In 2 innings so far, he has smashed 69 runs at a strike rate of nearly 177 and has picked up 3 wickets while going at less than 6 runs an over. His controlled left arm spin could thrive on the Kotla pitch.
Match Tip #18: SRH v KXIP
The teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kings XI Punjab. David Warner v David Miller. Both teams captained by Davids started the year with back-to-back losses – SRH have managed to bounce back with 2 wins thanks to Warner leading from the front, while KXIP languish at the bottom of the table with just 1 win from 4 games. KXIP captain David Miller has accumulated only 37 runs from 4 innings, which will be a real point of concern for the team management.
The Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium – the wicket here is flat so one can expect both teams to score plenty of runs. As has been the theme so far, both sides will want to chase under lights, and the team batting second will back themselves to chase anything less than 160.
Our picks for your fantasy cricket team
Shaun Marsh – Though Punjab have struggled to lock down their 4 regular foreign players, Shaun Marsh looked like his former self in their recent game against KKR making a useful 56 (albeit in a losing cause). If one other batsman can step up to build a partnership with him, he can prove a real threat against the relatively inexperienced SRH bowlers.
David Warner – Current holder of the orange cap, Warner has been in sublime touch this IPL. 4 games in, he has scored 3 half-centuries and averages 117.50. You can’t ignore the SRH captain’s ability to lead from the front, especially if he wins another toss and gets to chase.
Pardeep Sahu – Our wildcard pick for this game is the KXIP leg spinner Pardeep Sahu. Miller has trusted him so far, evident from the fact that Sahu has bowled more overs this year than any other KXIP bowler. He has picked up 3 wickets but if the KXIP seamers can break through David Warner at the top, he will relish bowling at SRH’s relatively weak middle order.
