IPL Fantasy Tips #8 and #9: SRH v KKR and MI v GL

The IPL party is well and truly on and the first double header of the IPL 2016 is here!  This post will have fantasy cricket tips for both the games on Saturday – SRH v KKR followed by MI v GL.

Match tip #8 : SRH v KKR

The teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad and  Kolkata Knight Riders. Both teams are looking to bounce back from defeats. SRH were blown away by the powerful RCB batting line up (even after getting Gayle out early) and KKR had what they thought was an above par total chased down by Rohit and his Mumbai Indians. KKR looks like the more balanced side and there is a strong chance that Narine will play his first match of this year’s IPL.

The Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium – the ground with capacity of 65,000 and a Very Very Special Laxman end! The wicket here is a flat so one can expect both teams to score plenty of runs. The Little Master, Tendulkar, scored 175 here in an ODI where India fell agonisingly short of Australia’s total of 350.

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Mustafizur Rahman – After his great bowling performances in the WT20 (where he outfoxed the classy Kane Williamson) Rahman will look to lead the Sunrisers bowling attack. His deceptive cutters in the death overs should get him a lot of wickets. In the last game against RCB he got rid of both ABDV and Watson to finish with 2 for 26 while the other bowlers were being smashed to all parts.

Andre Russell – Russell’s 36 off 17 balls in KKR’s game against MI showed just how explosive he could be. KKR will be hoping that the top order will lay the platform for Russell and others to accelerate at the end of the innings. The fact that he opens the bowling and is almost a certainty to bowl his full quota makes him a valuable fantasy player – it could be raining fantasy points!

Deepak Hooda – While there is always the chance that he may not be picked in the playing XI, our *wildcard* pick for this game, Deepak Hooda can bat and bowl. In last year’s IPL, he scored 54 off 25 balls for the Rajasthan Royals and is a pretty accurate bowler. Sunrisers would be hoping for him to put in a special performance

Match Tip #9 : MI v GL

The teams: Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Lions. Both MI and GL are currently enjoying the afterglow of victory. GL won the battle of the newbies against RPS in yet another one-sided contest won by the team batting second. MI’s captain is back in form and their bold move of promoting Mitch McClenaghan ahead of Jos Buttler came off against KKR.  MI do have some injury setbacks though, with news coming in that Lendl Simmons will definitely miss the rest of the IPL and there being a high likelihood that Lasith Malinga will also not be available for its duration.

The Venue: The Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai . The last game here was not a typical Wankhede wicket – there was pace, seam, spin and bounce and the Mumbai Indians only managed to score 121 against RPS. We expect to see the Wankhede bounce back and we should see some runs being scored!

Our picks for your fantasy cricket team

Harbhajan Singh – Bhajji showed in the first game against RPS that he can bat. In the second game, he bowled well and although he picked up only one wicket again KKR, he looked like he was really getting into his groove. Bhajji will be looking to lead the MI bowling attack in Malinga’s absence.

Jos Buttler – Coming in at number 5, Buttler showed signs of form in the last game against KKR with his crucial 41 off 22 balls. With that innings, Buttler should have cemented his batting position in the top 4 for the rest of the tournament (barring any more random batting order changes from MI).

Pravin Tambe – Our *wildcard* pick for this game is someone who is supposedly “past his prime” and has never played a game for India. Tambe is truly one of the great stories of the IPL. He is a cunning operator and his wickets of Rahane and the dangerous Du Plessis in the last game proved just that.
